Today marks 13 years since “The Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin died in far north Queensland after being stabbed through the heart by a stingray barb.
On that day 13 years ago the world lost one of the greatest, wildest and kindest nature activists the world has ever known.
The then-prime minister John Howard told Australia that Steve Irwin’s death was a “huge loss” to the country.
At the time tributes flowed in magazines, newspapers and on TV bulletins around the world with many people in shock with the news of Steve’s death.
Bindi Irwin paid tribute to her dad on Fathers Day when the now 21-year-old conservationist took to Instagram to remember her father in a short video.
“It’s Father’s Day here in Australia Reflecting on these wonderful moments, Hug the people in your life who bring light to your heart and always remember that love lasts forever.”
Steve’s son Robert Irwin also paid tribute to his dad on Twitter for Father’s Day.
“It’s Father’s Day here in Australia! Even in my early years, my dad certainly shaped the person I am today.. he was the best dad to me and @BindiIrwin , and I’ll always look up to him”
